Well, Eli has been in this stage for MONTHS where he doesn't want to eat hardly anything. And I know this is "normal" at this stage, but I still want to feel like he's eating! He will eat a little bit of something one day, and then won't eat it again for weeks. The only things that he always eats is: bananas, dried fruit (of all kinds with the exception of blueberries), corn, yogurt smoothies, nutrigrain bars, pop-tarts, french fries, and various cookies/chips (all the bad stuff of course! ha!)
He won't eat meat (with the occasional chicken nugget the exception and hot dog bite here and there), and has stopped liking most vegetables! What to do? This was his meal last night:
Corn, Pistachios, Whole Wheat Crackers with Laughing Cow cheese, Bun with peanut butter, and not pictured-a cheese stick, which he ate half of. Of this meal, he licked the cheese off the crackers, ate some of the corn, and ate a little bit of the bun with peanut butter. He also ate 4 of the pistachios. That's it. He's only gained one pound since December, but he's far from looking "malnurished" - he still has his belly and you can't see his ribs (as so wonderfully pointed out by Vince).
So my question is, what do you do to get your kids to eat? Something more than cookies and cheese puffs that is! We try a bunch of new things here and there, and revisit foods he's "rejected" in the past, but no such luck. I just want to feel like Eli is eating something, especially something healthy (of course!). Any suggestions from you moms out there?
Thanks!

Getting Creative For Dinner

Deceptively Delicious is a cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld and has awesome ideas of how to disguise veggies in food.
My midwife actually gave me some great advice - don't feed them any junk, and when they are hungry, they will eat. She has 8 kids so I count her as an expert. :-) They are all well nourished!
Aaron did the same thing at this age and what I did was cut back on snacks that would be closer than an hour and a half from mealtime and gave him water only to drink during the day. That worked for us, but it's not for everyone. :-) Now we make deals - if he eats everything on his plate he can have more of his favorites (like applesauce or yogurt)
Something else to remember is that the growing times come and go, and his body will let him know when it's time to eat more!
I could have written this post myself! Owen won't eat meat except for chicken nuggets and also won't eat vegetables. It drives me crazy! He gets milk with meals but otherwise only drinks water during the day. He does snack, but only on healthy foods: Dried Kashi, dried fruit, cheerios, etc. I hope you find some answers and can pass them along to me!
