Well, Elijah's first Christmas went pretty well. As I assumed, he enjoyed the wrapping paper and the simple toys. If only it would be that easy in the coming years! We had Vince's brother and his family over to our house on Christmas Eve Eve and had dinner with them and opened presents with them. The best part of that night was when my nephew opened his present from us. He LOVES to cook, so I was able to get him 2 $50 gift certificates for Young Chef's Academy (cooking school for kids) for only $20!! Gotta love those radio station specials! He was speechless - that was so worth it!

On Christmas Eve, Vince had to work, so Elijah and I went in to see him for lunch. We brought in a yummy spiral sliced ham too. This was Elijah all dressed up to see Daddy:

We had a WONDERFUL Christmas with our families. It was a fun time for Elijah and us as we watched him! I think we have enjoyed it more, but it was still fun! I hope that everyone had as great of a Christmas as we did!!!!

New Do
Well, I finally went and got my hair cut and colored! I've been needing to for a while, but I just haven't had the time/energy to go out and get it done. Well, I finally got out last night and got it done. It's a total change and I LOVE it! I figure, I needed to have a change before I turn 30 (only 43 days left in my 20's - ugh!!!)
So, I got several inches cut off and it's a lighter brown with blonde highlights now. Here's the final product:

Too Much Turkey?!
This was taken after Thanksgiving while loafing at our house. Elijah is catching on to the tradition already!

All Bundled Up
It was cold the morning I took this picture. Elijah is ready for the car ride to my sister-in-law's house and set with all his toys to keep him occupied!

Moving right along. . . . .
Backwards! Elijah is starting the crawling motions, and of course, he does great going backwards! These are from the other night when he started towards the middle of the room and slowly moved his way backwards and ended up under his pack-n-play. So cute!

This picture is worth being the 100th post (in my opinion at least!)

Freezer Clean-Up
So, I finally broke down and cleaned out my deep freeze and regular freezer! What a chore! And of course, when dealing with frozen food, you have to move quickly! There were packages of meat, vegetables, cheese, and whatever else you can think of spread all throughout my kitchen. Meijer was having a great sale with a lot of buy one, get 2 free, so I took advantage of that, therefore necessitating cleaning out my freezer!
I went through and inventoried everything that I have and will make a list and post it outside of my deep freeze. That way I'll know what is in there so when I'm planning my menu for the week, I can use whatever I have on hand. We have a membership to both Costco and Sam's, so it's nice to be able to stock up on our meats and freeze the size we need.
Here's some pictures of my neatly organized freezers - whoo hoo!

EEK, a mouse!
A few days prior to Thanksgiving I had a crazy thing happen! We live in an old house (1875), so with living in an old house comes it's drawbacks - a main one in the winter being MICE! We get them every year without fail. We have a cat, so she's been great at getting them each winter - she's our Mouse Slayer! Well, this one particular morning, I was getting a shirt out of my closet (barefoot since I'm still in my pajamas) and I feel this scratching on the top of my foot, followed by a furry scurry across my foot!!!! It wasn't my cat since she was downstairs and the bedroom door was closed. And besides, the furry scurry was MUCH too small to be my cat!
So, needless to say, I freaked out! I did not make a sound, surprisingly! I started flailing my arms everywhere and I did what some would deem to be River Dance! I then just stood there for about 5 minutes just staring into my closet. Like that was going to solve anything!!!
Well, 2 days ago, my cat FINALLY caught the mouse and brought it downstairs into the living room for us to examine - yes, the mouse was still alive, and it was HUGE! She likes to "play" with the mouse and then catch it again, and then play, etc etc. She had let the mouse go and it tried to run up Vince's leg for shelter!! He screamed and I went flying through the hallway - where I ended up standing on one of our kitchen chairs!!
We haven't seen the mouse since, but there is this funky smell coming from the heating vent, which leads me to believe the mouse crawled in there to hide, and has since departed this world! Vince is going to investigate that tonight - I"ll be downstairs curled up on the couch holding Elijah tight so as not to "interfere"!!
Anyone else have fun rodent experiences?! ha!

Recent Happenings
Wow - guess I didn't realize that it's been a while since I updated my blog. Lots has been going on, I just haven't had a chance to update! Let's see - Thanksgiving was fun. We went to Vince's Uncle and Aunt in Maysville, KY (about an hour from us) and had dinner with them. We then went to my Aunt and Uncle's in Maysville for dessert. The bummer of it all - we didn't come home with ANY leftovers! I was craving leftovers, so on Friday, I went out and bought a turkey and cooked it up with all the fixings, just so we could have leftovers!!!! I've since made Turkey and Dumplings (have been able to feast on for 3 or 4 meals now) and Turkey Salad (still eating that) and will be making Turkey Spaghetti tonight. Not to mention the traditional turkey, gravy, and potato leftover yummies!!
I did some shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but we didn't go out until around lunch time. The stores were dead and we got right in and out pretty quickly. I am happy to say that I have about 85% of my Christmas shopping done! YAY! I didn't think there were TONS of bargains this year, so I didn't feel bad about not going out at 4am!
I have so much to be thankful for this year! Mainly, my little miracle Elijah! He is the joy of my life and every second is better because of him! I am thankful for my wonderful and supportive husband who does so much for our family!! I am thankful for so many things this year!

Visit with Family
My mom and my sister and her newest baby came to visit this weekend. It was such a great visit and we had so much fun. Logan (my sister's baby) was born 10 days after Elijah, so it was great for the cousins to finally meet. We got their pictures done professionally while they were here too. That was definitely a fun experience. I don't get to see my family that often since my mom lives in New Hampshire and my sister is in Pennsylvania, so these visits are always precious. I miss them already! Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Picture Dilemma
Ok - so I have scheduled our first family photo shoot for 2 weeks from today! It's going to be for our Christmas cards, but it will be our first professional family picture. Vince and I haven't even had professional pictures done, so this should be fun! My dilemma is what should we wear?! We are definitely a casual type of family, although Vince's definition of casual and mine are different!! We'll be doing a Christmas picture for our Christmas cards (and generally to have a family shot) and then we'll be getting some of Elijah. Any suggestions on good clothing options?!

Happy Birthday Vince
Well, this is one day late, but I wanted to wish my wonderful husband a very happy birthday! We celebrated on Saturday with his brother and his family and went out to PF Chang's (Vince's favorite restaurant) and it was yummy! We had cake and ice cream at home and Wesley helped me decorate the cake. It was a great time with family. Yesterday was Vince's birthday and we had church and then grocery shopping, so it was a pretty quiet day. Of course, I didn't get any pictures, but here's a picture of us that was taken while I was pregnant, but I really like the picture of us! Happy birthday baby! I love you so much and can't wait to spend many more birthdays together!!! I love you!

Elijah's shoes!
This weekend I put shoes on Elijah that we had gotten free at a yard sale! I couldn't resist with his little outfit! He wasn't too sure about them at first, but soon learned to deal with them! Everyone was saying how cute he was when we were out to eat this weekend for Vince's birthday.

Elijah's New Toy!
This weekend we were at Wal-Mart and saw something that we knew Elijah would love, but we didn't want to wait until Christmas to get it for him since he could use it now! He has a Johnny-Jump-up, but we can only put it in 3 places in the house - one is in the kitchen, which is good for meals. The other 2 places are really not useful (den doorway, which if he grows another inch, he wouldn't be able to use it, and then the entry way to the stairs - no heat/air in the entry way, so he would freeze!). SO, we got one of the bouncy seat things that is like an exersaucer and bouncy all in one! He LOVES it! He was going to town in it last night and Vince has informed me that he has already been in it today for over an hour each time! Great entertainment for all!!!

Fun times with Wesley
This weekend we were able to have our nephew over for the night. Wesley has stayed with us before and only lives 15 minutes from us, but he looks forward to staying with us for a night here and there. It's his reward for good behavior around his home. He knows that if he acts up or gets in a fight with his sister (what little brother DOESN'T do this!) that the deal is off! He does SO great with Elijah and Elijah LOVES his cousin! I only got one picture of Elijah with Wesley, but I got some pictures of Elijah with Wesley's stuffed animals!!!

Guess it was a long day!
Vince and I were in the kitchen eating dinner while Elijah was bouncing away in his jump-up. After a little while (and after conversation) we noticed that it had gotten quiet in the kitchen. We looked over towards Elijah, and this is what we saw:
Poor little guy! He's teething something fierce and isn't getting in really good naps because of this, so needless to say, he was tuckered out! Isn't he just so precious?!

Some random pictures of my cutie-pie!
Yes, He IS Mr. Popular!
"I'm sitting here all by myself!"
"I'm not sitting by myself anymore!"
"Look at me standing in my jump-up!"
"Oh, HI! You snuck up on me!"
"I love my jump-up!"

In a funk. . . ..
I've been in a funk this week. Not totally sure where it's all coming from, but I'm in a funk nonetheless. I've really been struggling with working and being away from Elijah. Call it separation anxiety, I'm not sure. The other night, I got home from work (late) and got Vince's dinner ready so he could head out to class. I was hanging out with Elijah all night, and then Vince got home from class and he came to get Elijah to give him hugs and such, and I started crying - I didn't want him to take him from me! I mean, my reasoning was that he was home with Elijah all day - he's mine now :-)
Work has been crazy too - I have A LOT of added responsibilities that I wasn't planning on taking on, but have been thrown into. On one hand it's nice to have the director's confidence that I can complete the tasks, but on the other hand, I don't want the added tasks! (Bad attitude I know - I'm just already busy enough!) It creates an additional 16-18 meetings a month that I will have to arrange, attend, and keep the minutes for! Not to mention getting handouts together, updating information/clients and travel to the meetings. Thankfully, the meetings will mostly be held in the building I work in, but some will be on a different campus - fun times for all - especially in the winter!!
Maybe it's delayed Post-Partum Depression - anyone else experience that? I know I have an influx of hormones since I have stopped breastfeeding, so I can chalk some of it up to that! But not everything - it's just crazy! So, I'm in a funk. Pray for me!
